A Tour of Historic Colorado and Its Railroads -- the 1998 TGA
Railfanning Tour The Train Gamers Association is sponsoring a special railroad
tour to delight both the train gamer and railfanner in you. This
tour is an opportunity to visit four of Colorado's still existing
historic railroads and view the fabulous high country of the Rocky
Mountains during its annual fall foliage display. The trip will be by tour bus and seats are limited to eighteen.
A special souvenir guide discussing the history of Colorado railroading
will be made available to each participant. Plenty of time has
been left at night for impromptu gaming. Trip cost includes hotel
room (double occupancy) for four nights, all activity passes,
some breakfast and lunch meals, tips, baggage, beverages and snacks. Trip Cost: $675.00 A $100 refundable deposit is due at the time that the registration
is received (no later than June 15, 1998). Limited seating is
available. Final payment of the remaining cost will be due by
August 20, 1998. RailTour '98
First we meet for breakfast then at 8 am, we will leave the Doubletree
and ride the Georgetown Loop RR up four miles of steep grades,
sharp curves, and across the famous Devil's Gate Viaduct. We will
then travel 310 miles to Durango via Leadville, Poncha Springs,
Poncha Pass, and Wolf Creek Pass, following old railroad routes
as we drive. Boxed lunch included.
Ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad by steam locomotive.
It's a 90 mile ride through snow-capped mountains and the remote
and spectacular Animas River Canyon. We will spend lunch in Silverton
before returning to Durango for a tour of the shopyard and museum.
Dinner in Durango afterwards included in tour price. Full breakfast
included.
Today, we will leave Durango and head down to Chama, just south
of the Colorado-New Mexico border. There we will ride the Cumbres
& Toltec Scenic Railroad up a 4% grade to Cumbres Pass and remote
Osier where we will partake of a Famous Chuck Wagon lunch. Full
breakfast included.
Colorado Springs is our destination today. There we will board
the Manitou & Pikes Peak Cog Railway which climbs steep grades
to the top of Pikes Peak at an altitude of 14,110 feet. Afterward
we will take a tour of the shopyard. Boxed lunch included. Afterward,
we will head up to Golden and the Colorado Railroad Museum for
several hours before returning to the Doubletree for a night of
wind-down gaming.
