3.3.8   PURIFICATION

THIRD TRIAD

Hand of Truth
Level: 1
Aspect: Knowledge
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
By laying a hand on an ethereal or mortal creature, the child of fire can tell if the target is answering questions truthfully. If the Storyteller chooses, this roll can be resisted by the target’s prudence or deception. Keep in mind that the force can only work if the two characters are in the same state (ethereal or material). This force is only active as long as the angel maintains contact with the target.

Optional Rules
Generally only one roll should be made per target per scene. If the player lets go of the target and then reestablishes contact during the same scene, a new roll is not required.

Sense Corruption
Level: 1
Aspect: Knowledge
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
This is a force only usable on other children of fire (specifically the sons of light). With it, the angel can tell the exact level of the target’s grace. The roll can be resisted with the target’s temperance (ability to mask their true nature). As with Hand of Truth, physical contact must be established. If the target is not a son of light or if the roll failed, the angel will get no result whatsoever.

Shackle
Level: 2
Aspect: Power
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine
Description
This renders teleportation impossible for the targeted child of fire. They may still physically move around as normal. This is an extraordinarily useful force for the angels of purification since it limits the target angel’s ability to flee judgment. At the storyteller’s discretion, the roll can be resisted by the target’s fortitude.

Forced Ascension
Level: 3
Aspect: Glory
Duration: immediate
Forms: Divine
Description
Once a celestial has been successfully shackled, the angel of purification can use this force on them. By making contact with the target, the angel attempts to teleport both of them to the council room of the Celestial Court. Here they will be judged for their crimes. This is the only situation where lower ranking angels are allowed into the higher heavens. This roll can be resisted with the target’s fortitude. Additionally, the user must be of an equal or greater celestial choir.

SECOND TRIAD

Tempt
Level: 4
Aspect: Knowledge
Duration: Immediate
Forms: Divine, Hidden, Subtle
Description
Now the celestial has the ability to find the deepest weaknesses in his adversaries, namely their temptations. Knowledge of these temptations gives the angel of purification a great edge over those he seeks to persecute. Another major advantage to this force is that it is not a contested roll. The angel need only attain a 20 to be successful.

Weaken
Level: 5
Aspect: Power
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
With this force an angel can drain the abilities of another celestial (good or evil). The target’s energy is sapped. Their ability to perform all tasks is lessened, and even the strength of their moral fiber is diminished. The roll is resisted by the target’s fortitude.

Optional Rules
Though the effects of this power can be interpreted to mean whatever the storyteller likes, here are some guidelines. This weakening can be represents in mechanical terms. For each point by which the angel exceeds the opponents roll, the opponent’s stats are correspondingly decreased. Thus an opponent who rolled a 20 against the user's 26 would find all his aspect and virtues decreased by 6. Grace is the one part of a celestial that can not be decreased.

Nullify
Level: 6
Aspect: Power
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
This is one of the most feared celestial forces in the halls of Heaven. With it an angel can be separated from his connection to God. The favor the Almighty has bestowed on the child of fire can not be accessed for the remainder of the scene. In other words, celestials who have had this force used against them can not use grace points to modify their rolls and can not call on divine intervention for help. The roll is contested with the target’s glory, and it can not be used on celestials of higher choirs.
