3.3.2   BENEVOLENCE

THIRD TRIAD

Calming the Savage Beast
Level: 1
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
With but a thought, the child of fire can sooth one of God’s wild creatures. The enraged lion becomes docile; the ravenous bear becomes content. More ferocious animals might garner a more difficult target, as might the condition of the beast (cornered, unfed).

Optional Rules
As a general rule, domesticated animals, though they can become frenzied and attack, do not warrant a roll. Such targets should meet with automatic success. Animals that are intrinsically viscous (badgers, sharks, etc.) usually require a roll at hard difficulty (25). Animals who have been trained for aggression or who are near starvation will usually increase the difficulty level by an additional step (+5).

The Calming Word
Level: 2
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
Through gentle words, the celestial is able to calm the anguish, fear, and anger of a child of clay. If the force is invoked while in a material state, the words are clearly audible to the target and those around him/her. If, on the other hand, the child of fire is in an ethereal state, the words can only be heard by other ethereal beings. In this situation, the target is only aware that the turbulence within them is growing less. If the Storyteller deems this to be a contested roll, the target’s fortitude is usually used to resist it.

The Calming Song
Level: 3
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
Through angelic song, the celestial can allay the anguish, fear, and anger of a group of children of clay. In all other respects, this force is identical to the calming word. If the Storyteller elects to make this a contested roll, the highest fortitude among the group is used to resist the power. Only those who are in earshot can be effected, and the angel can not exempt certain humans in the group from the calming force.

The Calming Touch
Level: 3
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine (material), Hidden
Description
This force allows a celestial to render a child of clay or other material being unconscious. The angel must be able to physically make contact with the target. The roll can be resisted using the target’s fortitude.

Optional Rules
While the duration of this force is usually the remainder of the scene, the author offers these guidelines if Storytellers looking for more exacting time descriptions. The greater the targets Health, the quicker they will recover. Subtract this Health score from twenty to get the number of minutes they will remain unconscious. After this time passes, the process of waking is not an immediate one. It may take them many minutes to fully recover. During this time they can observe what is going on around them and only minimally interact with the world.

SECOND TRIAD

The Calming Spirit
Level: 4
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Scene
Forms: Divine, Hidden
Description
This force endows the child of fire with the ability to perform calming word on celestials as well as mortals. The one stipulation for this, however, is that the celestial creature must be of equal or lesser rank to the one attempting to utilize this force.

Sanity
Level: 5
Aspect: Glory
Duration: Story
Forms: Divine (material), Hidden
Description
Through touch alone the child of fire can cure those children of clay suffering from insanity. It can restore the minds of those shattered by horrific experiences or suffering from unexplained delusions.

Serenity
Level: 6
Aspect: Glory
